What is Dropbox Sign?

Dropbox Sign, formerly HelloSign, is the electronic signature product from Dropbox. Small and mid-sized teams use it to send proposals, order forms and agreements such as an NDA for signature, reuse templates, and track each request until every signer has completed it.

Signing is the easy part. The harder part is sending the right file: the version that passed review, with the scope and price agreed on the last call. That file is often one of four in a folder. The signed copy then lands in someone's inbox, detached from the deal that produced it. The deal record says closed, and nobody can quickly say which version the client actually agreed to.

Send the approved version for signature, and keep what was signed on the deal

Cobl connects to Dropbox Sign in both directions. Once a document is approved in the deal workspace, Cobl can send it as a signature request, using your templates where you have them. Cobl also reads your signature requests, their status and the signed files, so the agreement stays attached to the deal.

The request goes out from the same workspace where the document was written and reviewed, so the file that gets signed is the one that was approved. Nothing is re-exported, renamed and attached by hand on the way out.

What Dropbox Sign and Cobl look like on a live deal

A consultancy finalizes a scoping proposal after a call where the client cut one phase. The partner updates the scope in the inline editor and approves the proposal. Cobl sends it through Dropbox Sign to the client's two signers. Both sign by the end of the week, and the completed request sits on the deal.

Six months later the client asks for the next phase. The partner opens the same deal workspace. The follow-on proposal starts from the signed version, with the phase that was cut still out of scope, rather than from the original draft that included it. Nothing is sent without review.

Key features of the Cobl Dropbox Sign integration

Signature requests sent from the deal

Approved documents go out as Dropbox Sign signature requests directly from the workspace, with the signers you set and your templates where they apply. The file that leaves is the file that was reviewed, with no manual export in between.

Status and signed files as context

Cobl reads your signature requests, who has signed and the completed files. The signed agreement becomes part of the deal context rather than an attachment in one person's inbox. When a signer has not yet completed a request, that shows on the deal next to the document waiting for it.

Signed terms carried into the next document

Follow-on proposals, renewal proposals and business cases start from what the client accepted: scope, dates and price as signed, not as first pitched. Most renewal errors start from the wrong version, and this removes the choice.

Works with Dropbox and your CRM

Past proposals stored in Dropbox feed the same workspace, and deal context from HubSpot or buyer threads in Gmail inform the document before it goes out for signature.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cobl integrate with Dropbox Sign?

Yes. Cobl connects to Dropbox Sign so approved documents can be sent for signature from the deal workspace, and so signed agreements and their status become part of the deal context.

What Dropbox Sign data does Cobl access?

Your signature requests, their status, signers and completed files, and your templates. Cobl can also create new signature requests for documents approved in the workspace.

Does Cobl send documents without approval?

No. A signature request goes out only after someone on your team approves the document and chooses to send it. Cobl removes the manual steps between approval and sending, not the approval itself.

Does it work with our Dropbox Sign templates?

Yes. Signature requests can use the templates your team already set up, including signer roles and field positions, so the signing experience for the client stays the same.

Is Dropbox Sign the same connection as Dropbox?

No. They are separate products from the same company, and Cobl connects to each separately: Dropbox Sign for signatures, Dropbox for stored files. More on data handling sits on the security page.
