The B2B sales and proposal glossary

Every deal runs on its own vocabulary. This glossary defines the terms behind RFPs, proposals, and modern sales workflows, in plain language, for the teams who live them.

Sales enablement

Sales enablement is the function that equips salespeople to sell effectively, providing the content, training, tools, and processes reps need to engage buyers and close deals. The quality of proposals and collateral is a core enablement concern.

Why it matters in B2B sales

Even great reps underperform without the right assets and processes behind them. Enablement raises the whole team's floor, making sure every rep has current sales collateral, knows how to use it, and follows a consistent process.

Since proposals are among the highest-stakes assets a rep sends, making them consistently strong is one of enablement's biggest opportunities. The economic argument is simple: it is usually cheaper and faster to lift the performance of the whole team than to keep hiring, and better assets and process are how that lift happens.

What sales enablement covers

The function spans four broad areas: content (the collateral, templates, and messaging reps use), training and coaching (onboarding, skills, product knowledge), tools (the software that makes reps productive), and process (the playbooks and workflows that keep selling consistent). Increasingly it also owns the metrics that show whether all of this is actually improving win rate.

Sales enablement vs RevOps

The two are close and often overlap. RevOps owns the systems, data, and cross-functional process that make the revenue engine run. Sales enablement focuses specifically on making sellers effective, content, training, and readiness. RevOps builds the machine; enablement equips the people who operate it. On smaller teams one group may do both.

A concrete example

A sales enablement team rolls out approved proposal templates, messaging, and training, then measures the lift in win rate at the proposal stage. The goal is that every rep, not just the top few, sends a strong proposal, and the metrics tell them whether the rollout worked.

How it shows up in a modern proposal workflow

Enablement is about consistency at scale, which is exactly what automation delivers. Cobl turns approved messaging and templates into generated sales proposals, so enablement's standards show up in every deal automatically rather than depending on each rep to apply them.

That is the enablement dream, best practice that happens by default. Instead of training reps to assemble a good proposal and hoping they do, the good proposal is generated for them, so the standard is met on every deal without policing.
